A first-timer’s guide to Paris

Image of Chimera on Notre Dame Cathedral, looking over Paris.

Paris can be overwhelming for a first-time visitor. It’s big, it’s busy and it’s home to a mind-boggling collection of museums and monuments. It can be difficult to know where to start. France is the most visited country in the

Cities to savour: Lyon

A photo of city of Lyon from the Fourviere lookout. Photo by Louise Reynolds writing

For too long Lyon has been overshadowed by Paris and Marseilles. Thanks to its rich history, cultural heritage and reputation as a foodie mecca, France’s third city has emerged as a must-visit destination in its own right.

Loving Geelong’s bay walk bollards

Image of one of Geelong's baywalk bollards

They remind me of my nana’s wooden clothes pegs. A few of them are a little shifty looking. Others seem strangely familiar. All of them are detailed recreations of real people and events. Geelong’s wonderful, whimsical bay walk bollards have

#edinburgh is full of history with stories hidden #edinburgh is full of history with stories hidden around every corner and even underground. One of the best ways to discover Edinburgh’s hidden secrets is to join a historical walking tour. I joined Fay from @cityofedinburghtours to explore vaults under the city the wall built to keep the English out and the Royal Mile with plenty of characters along the way. An excellent tour.

If it’s New Year’s Day it must be time to coun If it’s New Year’s Day it must be time to count my reading vs buying books score. Oh dear. Back to bad habits in 2022. Read only 7 books (I blame the return to study) and bought 16 (I blame people giving me bookshop vouchers). You may notice my iPad joining the pile of read books. This is because I read my first eBook (I blame my University reading list). You won’t see an eReader in my book stack again!
And it’s even worse than it looks because someone had the brainiac idea to start collecting the hard cover facsimile editions of all Agatha Christie’s novels, of which there are 84. Fortunately I already own a lot of them in other formats and read many. But not all. 📚
